James H. Hafer

NEWARK: A funeral service for James H. Hafer, 84, of Newark, Ohio will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark, OHIO. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Hafer passed away on November 14, 2012 at the Chapel Grove Inn.

He was born on December 25, 1927 to the late Earl H. and Olive S. (Shatzer) Hafer in Canton, OHIO. (Stark County)

He is survived by his son, Daniel D. (Bobbie) Hafer, grandchildren, Tony (Laura) Hafer, Mechelle (Jeremy) Smith, Becky (Bill) Hudnall and Katie (Adam) Hardy, great-grandchildren, Courtney, Christopher and Cody Keefer, Sadie Smith, Jorden Hess, Nicole Hudnall, Korbyn, Konnor and Aubrey Hardy, Kasyn and Koltyn Scarantine, Gavin and Giovanni Grigsby; sisters, Vera Murbach and Carole Yingling.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Hafer; daughter, Lisa K. Hafer; brother, Edward Hafer; sisters, Betty Wagner, Helen Preston and Dorothy Korleski.

Mr. Hafer is a fifty-year member of the Second Presbyterian Church.
He received a Bachelor's Degree from Heidelberg University and Master's Degree from Carnegie College of Library and Information Science.
He retired from the Newark Public Library after 27 years. He was also a member of the Newark Masonic Lodge #97 F & AM, Scottish Rite, Shriners, Newark Kiwanis, Ohio Library Council and the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club.
He was past President of PTA and owned a library consultant business. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed sailing and bowling.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday, November 16, 2012 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home. A Masonic service will be held at 5:45 PM.
