The Hadaway DNA Surname Project was established to find common ancestry among the many branches that share the Haddaway name, or any spelling derivation. DNA testing shows whether or not participants share a common ancestor, so this has become an invaluable tool for genealogists.
In Maryland, Haddaway is the most common spelling, but a single "d" is also common. In North Carolina, "Hattaway" is prevelant. In Georgia, "Hadaway" and "Hattaway" are almost interchangable, although my Mom's family is always the single "d".
Regardless of spelling, the DNA Project is looking for additional participants to clarify our research. The Project has already established that the Hattaways of Pitt Co, NC are related to the Hadaways of Georgia. As such, we now specifically need a Haddaway (or two) who descends from the Talbot Co, MD line. This would prove if our lines are related.
A qualified participant is any male who still carries the Haddaway surname. This is a Y-DNA (male chromosome) test, so any interested ladies would need to find a brother, father, or male cousin to submit the test. The test is completely painless and relatively inexpensive.
If anyone has any questions or concerns regarding DNA testing, I will be happy to answer as best I can. Please visit the Project web site:www.ftdna.com/public/hadaway
