NEW PORT RICHEY, FLA. – David J. Gross, 83, passed away on Aug. 30, 2013, in New Port Richey.

He was born in Youngstown, Ohio on June 17, 1930.

After graduating from East High School in June of 1948, he joined the Navy in October of 1948, and was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Center in Chicago, Hall of Fame Co. 402.
He went to the Naval Hospital at Annapolis, Md., then to Dispensary at Seven River, then to APA Ship at Chesapeake Bay. He volunteered for the Marine Meds headed for Korea.
They sailed from Camp Pendleton, Calif. and arrived in Japan in 1950.

He was attached to the 7th Marine Div. 3rd Battalion, 2nd Platoon.
He served as a Medic in Seoul Korea from August of 1950 to October of 1950 and participated in the Wonson-Hungam-Chosin Campaign North Korea from October of 1950 to December of 1950.

He earned a Korean Medal, U.N. Medal and two Presidential Citations.

He arrived in California from Korea in 1951 and was stationed in Green Cove, Fla., until his honorable discharge on Sept. 26, 1952, Serial No. 365 15 36 Rating HM 3.

He entered the Free Masons of Youngstown, Lodge No. 615 F.&A.M., 1954 at the Masonic Temple in Youngstown.
He received his Plumber’s License working out of Plumbers & Steamfitters Local Union No. 87 of Youngstown, Ohio.

He became a partner in Commercial Piping Co., retired in 1992 and moved to Florida in 1993.

He is survived by his wife, Doris (Whitmore) of 58 years; two sons, Martin and his wife, Mary Ann of Berlin Center, Ohio and Richard and his wife, Margaret of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two daughters, Pamela and her husband, Dan Tucker of Rapid City, S.D. and Barbara and her husband, Michael Orosz of Youngstown, OH; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-.grandchildren.
