Thomas J. Gray Family - GA, AL

Surnames: Gray, Wagnon
I am posting information I have compiled on Thomas J. Gray, who was born between 1790 and 1800 in Georgia. In 1820 Thomas was living in his father, Thomas Gray Sr.’s Walton Co., Georgia household. In 1830 and 1840 Thomas resided in Newton Co., Georgia. In 1850 he resided in Cobb Co., Georgia and in 1860 and 1870 is found in St. Clair Co., Alabama, where he died about 1874.

Thomas was married twice and I believe his first wife was the daughter of Thomas P. and Elizabeth Saucer Wagnon. Thomas Wagnon and his son, William O. Wagnon, are listed on the same page of the 1820 census as is Thomas Gray Sr. And in Greene Co., Georgia there is a deed in which Thomas J. Gray of Newton County sold his interest in the estate of Thomas P. Wagnon to Thomas P. Wagnon (Jr.) of Greene County. I am hoping someone can confirm that Thomas’ first wife was a Wagnon and that they can supply her first name. She died between 1848 and 1850.

Following is a tentative list of Thomas’ children by each of his wives (all dates approximate):

By Unknown Wagnon:

Elizabeth b. 1821; Rebecca b. 1828; Nancy b. 1832; Daniel b. 1835; Louisa b. 1837; Martha b. 1838; Bethany b. 1841; James b. 1843; Emeline b. 1845; Eugenia b. 1848

By Elizabeth, Second Wife, m. about 1852:

Mary A. b. 1853; John F. b. 1856; Mandelia (Dallas) b. 1858; Georgeann b. 1860; Sidney M. b. 1862; Joab b. 1864; Luetta b. 1868; Thomas F b. 1873; M. J. b. 1873.

Please note that an Ancestry Public Tree states that Elizabeth moved to Catoosa County, Georgia but this is incorrect. The Frances E. Gray who died in Catoosa County was the wife of Robert Gray.

I am seeking any help in the identification of both of Thomas’s wives, burial places, and information on his children. I am hoping the latter will lead me to the children’s death certificates that will provide their mother’s maiden names. Thank you for your assistance.
