I have been doing extensive research on one William Mentor (or Menter) Graham, born in Kentucky in 1800 either in Hardin or Green County. He preferred to be called Mentor. He had a sister named Elmira. Father's name is believed to be Jeremiah. Had an uncle named Johnson Graham who it is said was a Kentucky backwoods preacher. A possibly questionable biography in part on Mentor, indicated he received some education at a place called Owens Academy. It is suspected that in late 1820's he migrated North into and settled in the central part of Illinois (Sangamon County) in a village by the name of New Salem. In this village he was a subscription schoolmaster, and when school was not held, he is said to have been a brickmaker, and a carpenter. I am looking for clarification on any of the above from either descendants, or others who have, know of, or have viewed unrefutable evidence about this individual as related to any or all of the above. I am under some academic time constraints in seeking this or any information on or about this person. If you know of or have any info you feel might be useful, please e-mail me ASAP. Thank you.
