Hello there Stephane,
What I wrote in my previous message is pretty much all that I know. Like I said before the family moved to Czortkow after World War 1. It was only my great grandmother and three of her children (One being my grandfather) who were Golba's, as she remarried after my great grandfather's death to another man by the name of Ludwig Wisla, where she had three more children but by him, and went to live in Czortkow, Tarnopol Province.
My great grandfather was called Stanislaw Golba, and before his death was married to my great grandmother Katarzyna Golba (Born in 1888 in the Kielce area).
As Poland was partitioned and they were living in the PrussianGerman part, it is quite likely that Stanislaw may have seen service with the Prussian/German army during the war.
I am thinking of searching for potential military records that may still be around in archives in Europe somewhere, which should give more information about him, his birth and maybe his parenatage, which should then take the search back further into the 1800's.
