Marie A. Gassner

99, a lifetime Marathon resident, died Sunday, October 22, Mount View Convalescent Center, Wausau.

She was born April 23, 1907 in the town of Stettin, daughter of the late Ottmar Jr. and Clara (Knoeck) Sauter. On June 7, 1927 she married Richard L. Gassner in Marathon. They were married 54 years until the time of his death on September 28, 1981.

Marie enjoyed traveling, reading and watching sports. She will be remembered as a Marathon Historian.

Survivors include two sons, James (Rita) Gassner, Wausau and Frank (Myrna) Gassner, Marathon; one daughter Joan Seubert, Marathon; 15 beloved grandchildren: Paul (Deborah) Gassner, Dr. Kevin (Victoria) Gassner, Stephen (Mary Jo) Gassner, Mary (Joel) Dresang, Dr. John (Tammy) Gassner, Karen (Steven) Krahn, Mark (Amy Jo) Gassner; Michael (Debra) Seubert, Tony (Darlene) Seubert, Claire (John) Blume, Jerome (Debra) Seubert, Eric (Cynthia) Seubert; Gregg (Linda A.) Gassner, Linda M. Gassner and Cheryl (Thomas) Waller; 36 great grandchildren: Andrew, Judson, and Elisa Gassner, Kyle, Taylor, Matthew and Jennifer Gassner, Nicole, Alexander, Erin, and Madeline Gassner, Jack and Joseph Gassner, Haley, Hannah, and Grace Dresang, Annaliese, Elizabeth and Thomas Krahn, Bennet and Bronte Gassner; Tammy (fiancé Paul Radtke) Seubert, Denise (Dave) Pickering, Gwen (fiancé Josh Gregory) Blume, Maria (Josh) Hertel, Chad (Carrie) Seubert, Dane Seubert, Josh Seubert, Seth Seubert, Patrick Seubert, Samantha Seubert, Lindsey Seubert; Ryan Gassner, Abigale, Mathew and Nathan Waller.

Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by son-in-law John Seubert, one sister Gwen (Mark) Vetter and one brother Jerome (Rose) Sauter.

The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m.Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, Marathon. Friends may call on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary School, Marathon.
