NEWARK: A funeral service will be held for Harold Gartner on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 11:00am at Brucker Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st Street, Newark, OH 43055. Family will greet friends from 2:00pm-5:00pm on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the funeral home, as well as one hour prior to the funeral service. The Acme Lodge 554 F & AM will provide services at 4:45pm on Sunday.
Harold Jerome Gartner, age 94, passed away peacefully at his home January 11, 2017. Harold was born February 8, 1922 in Newark,Ohio to Henry Fredrick and Mary Pauline Gartner.
Harold married Marie Wright, the love of his life, on August 16, 1940 and celebrated 76 years together.
Harold worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 17 years before joining Newark City Schools. He was Maintenance Supervisor until his retirement from Newark City Schools on July 1, 1983.
After retirement, Harold and Marie spent their winters in Sarasota, Florida.
Harold was a 70 year member of Second Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee. He was a member of Acme Lodge 554 F & AM, a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, and Eastern Star, #305. Harold was a little league baseball coach when his five boys played for Mound City Little League.
He was a long time member of Licking Springs Trout and Golf Club, where he played golf with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Harold is survived by his wife, Marie, and their seven children: Larry (Betty) Gartner, Robert (Sally) Gartner, Daniel (Holly) Gartner, Thomas (Pamela) Gartner, Timothy (Sondra) Gartner, Peggy (Butch) Dunlap, and Mary (Todd) Humphreys; 14 grandchildren, Craig Gartner, Robbie (Tina) Gartner, Bobby Gartner, Shawn (Bobbi) Gartner, Deanna (Randy) Daughters, Shannon (Tony) Bonno, Timmy Gartner, Matt (Jamie) Gartner, D.L. (Gretchen) Dunlap, Amy (Amanda) Gartner, Cassia (Victor) Ysaguirre, Aaron (Kasondra) Humphreys, Haley (Patrick) Pearcy, Sarah Gartner; 1 step grandchild, Matt Hanbaum; 29 great grandchildren, and 14 times they happily welcomed a fifth generation great-great grandchild into their family.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Henry, Teddy, Eddie, Bobby Gartner; four sisters, Eva Couch, Betty Snider, Dorothy Wise, Marie Hummel; and one grandson, Jason "Brad" Gartner.
