Andrea L. Gartner, age 69, of Newark, Ohio, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014, at the Selma Markowitz Hospice Center, surrounded by her family.
She was born October 24, 1944, in Harlingen, Texas, a daughter of the late Williams Ralph Groves and Ruby Elizabeth (Saultz) Groves Mattox.
A graduate of Newark High School, she had been head majorette while in high school.
She enjoyed working and had worked in sales and customer service at Value City, Sears in Heath and for three years worked at Spencer House.
She thoroughly enjoyed being around people and keeping active.
Her interests included dancing, skating, bowling, playing cards, reading, playing solitaire and Tetris on her computer.
For many years, she had served as a den leader with Cub Scouts, served as a leader with the Boy Scouts, was a Brownie troop leader and continued as a leader with Girl Scouts.
Surviving are her three children, Michael David (Dixie) Allman of Coshocton, Ohio, Renee Lynn (Allman) Cope of Newark, OH, Karla Kristine Gartner of Blacklick, OH; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; a nephew, Tom Spiker of Thornville, Ohio
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Spiker and her step-father, Walter Mattox.
