I found a bit more information. It appears James was a farmer and lived outside Girard. Garret G. "Garry" Garretson was the manager of a lumber company in Girard and in the 1920 census was living on Madison Street in Girard. Is that a match?

I found this in The History of Girard on

"Daniel Macknett came to Girard in 1854, and established a lumberyard which he owned until 1893. It was then purchased by G.G. Garrettson who still owned the business at the time of the Girard Centennial in 1955. His establishment was the oldest building on the square at that time. His son Gordon took over the buiness, it was sold then to Herbert and Shirley Leach."

This from Girard (Ill.). Historical Committee.History of Girard, Illinois, from then 'til now, 1855-1955:

"G. G. Garretson came to Girard as a business man in 1883. He became interested in the lumber business in 1898 and after these 72 continuous years, still goes to the office every day."

The parents of G. G. and James L. Garretson appear to have come to Illinois from Somerset Co., NJ. The father was William S. Garetson and the mother was Ida M. Low(e).
