Hello everyone! Well, our lineage is a tough and confusing one, as far as I know, it has a long and confusing story. I was born on Puerto Rico and was given the surname from my mother's side. As my early years in childhood passed by I noticed I was almost alone with the fact that we the Garayuas were so few, like extinct, of course I found out later on that there were indeed quite a few afterwards. I was curious back then so I asked my family about our history and they told me a story on how my great, great grandfather got here.

They were the "vascos" which were originated from Navarra, Spain. They were also noble people [Part of the high-social standing class] back in Spain, but they were also revolutionists and because of that they were not liked by other high-class families. I was told my great great grandfather alongside other Garayuas [which by then were placed garayoas, were exiled from Spain because of their revolutionary acts and other attempts agaisnt the country. Afterwards they traveled by ships to visit different countries due to their exile and as a "luck charm" my great-great grandfather landed on Puerto Rico and met his half and that is what became of my lineage. I was always a curious one when it came to my surname. I remember whenever my name was mentioned in class alongside my surname everyone would turn their heads toward me and stare with a confused motion carved on their face. I always felt weird having such a surname, almost no one can spell it right the first and second time [this is why I always laugh], but I also like this surname as I'm aware that we or our ancestors were indeed noble and of the high class or say [rich] back then with a high standing on society but I guess that comes with a price, they were revolutionists or atleast a great part of our family was. I would want to visit Navarra in Spain so that I can see for myself our lineage's region and find out more about are "noble" bloodline. I hope this was indeed interesting and has opened a sort of curiousity to all of you on behalf of our surname and lineage. So far, my family always said and says that every Garayua is bound to be family, it doesn't matter if He/She is from another country or not, the reason why is because our ancestor is the same one for all of us, they all originated from Spain but due to exile and other problems that may have caused their immigration they extended to other reaches. I know there are quite a few Garayuas but not a big number to be amazed at, it's a slight few but I'm happy to know these few are curious and interested in our family lineage as I am. I live in the United States but I constantly travel to Puerto Rico, Ponce. Hope to hear from you all, take care everyone!
