Thanks for the reply. Here is everything I know
about my Gantert relatives:
my great-great-grandfather was Martin Gantert
who was born about 1815 and was in the St. Louis
census. He was married to Agnes Mulanphy. They
had 8 children:
Anton - born 1846
Theresa - born 1848
Margaret - born 11/24/1850
Magdalene - born 9/26/1853
Matilde - born 9/1/1855
Joseph - born 4/18/1857
Wilhemina - born 3/8/1859 (aka Wilhelmina)
William Herman- born 7/18/1861
Papers from service in 1864 show Martin Gantert was
a private in the army in Mo. He lost his life
in the Civil war (he was killed in the barracks(?))
His 2 sons also lost their lives in the war and
are supposedly buried in Jefferson Barracks
Wilhemina was my great-grandmother and one of her
sisters lived in O'Fallon Ill. She married my
great-grandfather John J. Readey in St. Louis, Mo.
Apparently the Gantert family was originally
from Ill. but moved to Mo. when they were given
a land grant or inheritance when Martin died.
We also have some conflicting documents that
list Agnes' children as Margaretha (instead of
Margaret) who was married to artin Kroen,
Magdelena (instead of Magdelene) who was married
to John Tenbusch, Anton and John Roos (which
makes us think she was married previously),
Matilda and Wilhelmina Gantert.
That is all we know right know. I hope it helps.
I will keep you posted if we find out anymore.
