This is my gg grandfather. Printed in the Frankfort Index, date unknown.

Jay Gano was born on the 20th day of October, 1828, at Westford, Otsego county, New York, and died at his home in Frankfort, Kansas, on the 19th day of November, 1911, aged 83 years and 29 days.

He was one of nine children, only two of whom, a brother and a sister, survive him.

In 1855 he moved to Little Valley, Cattarangus county, New York, where he was married to Miss Jane Ellis on the 20th day of February, 1856. Two children, Lina E. Gano, and E. J. Gano, were born to this union while residents of New York.

The family came west in 1869, locating on the homestead adjoining Frankfort on the west, where the second son, George E. Gano was born, and where the family have resided for forty-two years.

The name of Gano is French, the family being established in this country by two French Hugenot priests some time in the seventeenth century. The immediate forefathers of the deceased were, however, Mohawk Dutch.

Mr. Gano had been a well known resident of Frankfort, and for several years conducted a meat market here, of late years, however, he devoted his time to farming and raising fine horses. He was always successful in all business undertakings and was a prosperous man. His life was a long and useful one, and those who knew him well were his staunchest friends.

He is survived by his devoted wife, two sons and one daughter, the later, Miss Lina Gano, being a successful teacher in New York City for a number of years. The sons, E. J. Gano is a resident of Summerfield, Kans., and George E. Gano of Ellis, Kans.

The funeral services were held at the family home at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, November 21st, 1911, conducted by Rev. E. M. Paddleford, pastor of the First Methodist church. The remains were followed to their last resting place in Willow Hill cemetery by a large concourse of old tiem friends and neighbors.
