BOARDMAN, Ohio – A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave. in Boardman for Samuel A. Galano Jr., 78, formerly of New Castle, Pennsylvania.
He passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at the Hospice House.

Sam was born Aug. 30, 1931 in Wampum, Pa., the son of Samuel A. Galano Sr. and Maria Calderone Galano.

He spent most of his life in New Castle, first working on the railroad and then in the auto business. Sam attended the Clen-Moore United Presbyterian Church in New Castle and had been married to the former Margrit Mette for 28 years.

He avidly enjoyed working on the mechanics and bodywork of automobiles. He also took great pride in repairing and restoring things so they would “work again.” Sam loved music, chording at the piano and singing standards, Italian love songs, gospel music and good food.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by two sisters, Val Rozzi and Lillian Smilee; and his first wife, Jane Wojtowicz.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Samuel (Molly) Galano of Boardman, Ohio; two daughters, Cindy Stackhouse of Canfield, Ohio and Sandy (Eric) Lang of Youngstown, Ohio; grandsons, Sam Galano and Eric Lang Jr.; granddaughters, Alexis Stackhouse and Chelsea Tennyson; and one great-granddaughter, Olivia Lang. He also leaves his brother, Vincent (Elma) Galano of New Castle, Pa.; nieces, Cheryl, Kim and Kristen; nephew, Gary Smilee and his wife, the former Edith Little.
