Phillip Gagan

Monday afternoon at 1:30 Phillip Gagan, a very highly respected citizen of this city, was called and answered the summons of his Creator, after a very brief sickness, having been confined to his room only since last Wednesday.

Mr. Gagan had been a resident of this city for the last 20 years, and in that time had made many warm friends always being kind to his wife and family, and ever ready and willing to assist those less fortunate when in his power. During his residence here most of his time had been in conducting a flour and feed store on Hoosier street which business he sold several years ago. The last few years he has been engaged in the liquor business.

Mr. Gagan was born on the 11th day of December, 1843, near Scipio and died on February 19, 1906. His boyhood days were spent on the farm in Geneva township. On the 21st day of May, 1878, he was united in marriage to Margaret J. Call, of Scipio, and on November 2nd, 1881, she died leaving two daughters, Alice and Anna, both of whom are now living. In 1894 he was married to Katharine Wing, at North Madison, who now survives him.

Funeral services were conducted by Father Widerin at the Catholic church Wednesday morning, after which the remains were interred in St. Mary's cemetery Monday afternoon at 1:30
