Surnames: France, Frantz
My family descends from a man named Johann Jost Frantz who is first found in Ulster County, New York, when he was a sponsor at a 1768 baptism. He was living in a community with Dutch, Huguenots, and Palatines, so it is presumed that Johann was a Palatine, too.

He had 10 children, with most of the sons anglicizing their names: Hendrick Frantz --- to --- Henry France. My ancestor, Joseph Frantz, was the only son to have retained the "Frantz" spelling.

A number of German "Frantz"s also immigrated into Pennsylvania. Perhaps some of them also anglicized to "France".
