Susan I. Hludik, 61 years, of Shapleigh, died on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at her daughter’s residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Kittery on November 21, 1950, a daughter of Clarence and Ernestine June (Reeves) Fenderson. Her early years were spent in southern Maine, and she graduated from Wells High School. As the daughter of a Navy man, she and her family lived in several locations.

She married her high school sweetheart, John Hludik, on June 17, 1969.

Susan earned her Associates Degree from New Hampshire Technical Institute. She was a paramedic, and rose to the position of Director of Wells EMS, a job she held and enjoyed for over 20 years.

Susan enjoyed gardening, kayaking, and camping. She cared deeply for all of the people she worked with at Wells EMS. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her loving husband John Hludik of Shapleigh; two daughters, Julie Racine and her husband Stephen of Stacyville, ME, and Karen Hludik of Wells; her son, Michael Hludik of Wells; her two grandchildren, Dillon Racine and Mollie Hludik; her two brothers, James and Joseph Fenderson; and her two sisters, Paula Carl and Janet Knight.

There are no calling hours. A procession up U. S. Route 1, starting at 4 pm on Wednesday, May 23 at the Wells Junior High School and ending at the Coastal House, will be held in Susan’s honor. Immediately following, there will be a celebration of Susan’s life held at the Coastal House.

Should friends choose, memorial donations may be made in her memory to: The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital Development Office, 22 Bramhall Street, Portland, ME 04102; or Wells Emergency Medical Associated Charities, Susan Hludik Scholarship Fund, c/o Kennebunk Savings Bank, 49 Sanford Road, P.O. Box 129, Wells, ME 04090. I. Hludik
