I have traced the New Mexico Fajardo family back to Alonso Fajardo, b. 1656 in New Mexico. I also know that there was a Miguel Fajardo, who was a squad leader for "re-conquistador" Diego de Vargas when he was leading the settlement party to Santa Cruz/Chimayo area of New Mexico in the late 1600s. Could they have been related? Am going to go research the archives at University of New Mexico library to see if I can find out more about them.

I see on many Ancestry family trees: Alonso Fajardo and his wife, Magdalena Lujan (b. 1660 Santa Fe, d. 1693 in El Paso)and son Cayetano (married Maria Ledesma in Santa Fe, d. Jan 1731).

Alonso was apparently one of the early colonists who settled Santa Cruz de Canada in northern New Mexico. They fled to El Paso del Norte (now Juarez, Mexico) when the Pueblo revolt started in 1680, and his son Cayetano was born there. Then Cayetano moved back up to Santa Fe/Santa Cruz area, where he and his wife Maria Ledesma had their son Antonio Fajardo (b. 1718) in Santa Cruz. Antonio Fajardo and his second wife, Maria Garcia Duran y Chavez, joined the families who left Santa Cruz to go back down south and settle the farming villages around Socorro; Sabinal, Polvadera. Some Fajardos still live near Socorro and Hatch, NM, most likely descended from this branch.

I am searching for more information about Alonso Fajardo and Miguel Fajardo from the early 1600s. Any leads appreciated!
