I am hoping to heaven that some kind person out there who is researching the ERRETT family of Westmoreland Co., PA, has come across some records of my great great grandparents Lewis and Susan ERRETT aka Louis and Susan ARRETT and their children.
Here is what I know:
Lewis ERRETT was born about 1835 in Hempfield Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA, the son of George Errett (1804 - 1879) and Hannah Haines (c. 1803 - 1845). Lewis married Susan (maiden name unknown) born about 1835 in PA. Marriage date and place are unknown, but an estimate is about 1860.
Lewis and Susan ERRETT's daughter Jane was born about 1860 in PA.
Lewis and Susan ERRETT left PA between 1862 and 1865 and relocated in Iowa.
These children were born in Iowa: Amanda and Ida Amm ERRETT, twins, born 10 April 1865, Alice Lucinda ERRETT born March 1867, and Henry ERRETT born 1870.
The U. S. Federal Census of 1870; Blackhawk Twp., Jefferson Co., Iowa, [Fairfield Post Office], lists this family under ARRETT, Louis, H/H, age 35, farmer. Next door is Fred (Frederick) HANES, age 62, farmer, born in PA. [Probably a relative of Lewis's mother, possibly Lewis' uncle.]
Amanda, Ida, and Alice ERRETT were returned to Westmoreland Co., PA, as orphans sometime before 1879 and placed with guardians. They are listed as "servants" in the households of their guardians in the 1880 Census of Westmoreland Co., PA.
Amanda, Ida, and Alice, children Of Lewis ERRETT, are named in their grandfather's will. (George Errett died 11 April 1879. His will is on file at the Westmoreland County Courthouse in Greensburg, PA.)
Most likely, Lewis, Susan, Jane, and Henry ERRETT died in Iowa sometime between 1876 and 1879.
I need death/burial and birth/baptism records for this family. Alternate spellings of their surname are Ehret, Eret, Erret, Errett, Errette, Erit, Errit, Aret, Arret, Arrett, Arit, and Arrit.
By tradition, the ERRETT family are Lutherans. Perhaps there is some kind person out there who could look in the Lutheran Church records of Blackhawk Twp., Jefferson Co., Iowa, and see if there are any records for Lewis and Susan Errett/Arrett, and their children: Jane, Amanda, Ida Ann, Alice Lucinda, Henry, and possibly other children unknown to me. I am willing to pay for photocopies and postage.
Perhaps there is someone out there who has visited a cemetery in the vacinity of Fairfield and has seen tombstones with the Arrett or Errett name on them. I would greatly appreciate photos. I am willing to pay for copies and postage.
