Brigadier General Bernard S. Waterman died at his home at Ft Belvoir, Virginia on September 12, 2002, at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Harriet (Blustein); three children: Barbara (Jim W.) Downs of Mobile, Alabama, Constance (Alan G) Lampert of Nashua, NH, and Bradley (Susan) Waterman of Burke, Virginia; nine grandchildren: James (Cynthia) Broadus, Barry (Pamela) Broadus, Nancy (Robert) Dunn, Jonathan (Alison) Lampert, Amy (Leonard) Burd, Andrew (Suzanne) Lampert, Kerry, Lauren and Brendan Waterman; ten great-grandchildren and two brothers, Edward (Rose) or Kennett Square, PA and Harold (Doris) Waterman of Dallas, TX. He was the son of Samuel and Bessie (Weisman) Waterman.

General Waterman graduated from Bangor, Maine high school and the United States Military Academy in 1935. After serving in the Pacific during World War II, he attended Harvard Business School where he received his masters' degree with distinction. He was a member of the Century Club at Harvard. Following this, he served as an instructor at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. After serving in Europe he became the Commandant of the of the Army Logistics Management Center at Fort Lee, Virginia and had subsequent command positions. Upon retirement from the service in 1965, as a Brigadier General, he returned to the Industrial College as a permanent professor and earned his Doctor of Business Administration at George Washington University Business School, with honors. While at ICAF, he was the director of the cooperative joint masters and doctoral program with George Washington University Business School. He fully retired in 1986 and continued to enjoy golf and tennis until he became ill.

Services will be on Oct 24, 2002 at the Ft Belvoir chapel at 10:30AM followed by burial at Arlington Cemetery. Calling hours will be at his home on Thursday evening and Sunday.
