Elmer Dale Ehrig, son of Louie and Catherine (Clausen) Ehrig, was born March 19, 1928 on the family farm near Webb, Iowa. He attended school at Garfield Consolidated School.
On September 21, 1947 Elmer was united in marriage to Dorothy Bannister in Minnesota. To this union nine children were born. Elmer did grain farming and raised livestock for many years near Mallard. He also enjoyed raising horses and showing ponies. Dorothy passed away in 1965 and Elmer later married Vera Ridgeway on December 1, 1978 in Iowa City.
Elmer enjoyed fishing and camping especially at Storm Lake. He was a big fan of C.B. Radios. Elmer truly loved showing his ponies and attending parades with his black Shetlands. He had his horses in the St. Pat’s Parades for many years.
Elmer died Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the Pocahontas Manor in Pocahontas, Iowa at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Dorothy and Vera; two brothers, Harold and Edward; three sisters, Viola, Lucille and Evelyn; two sons, Donald and Lyle; and a daughter, Tina.
He is survived by his children, Linda Kozora and her husband, Michael of Washta, IA, Beverly Feeney and her husband, Joe of LeMars, IA, Sally Ehrig of Mallard, IA, John Ehrig of Estherville, IA, James Ehrig of Dallas, TX, and Mary Waltman and her husband, Steve of Harris, IA; nineteen grandchildren; thirty one great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
