Descendants of Jesse Eagon

Generation No. 1

1. JESSE3 EAGON (BARNET2, JAMES1) was born April 23, 1801 in Waynesburg, PA, and died October 15, 1865 in Waverly, Mo.. He married
ELIZABETH MORRIS June 28, 1821 in Ohio, daughter of JOHN MORRIS and REBECCA. She was born May 02, 1799 in Waynesburg, PA, and died
March 25, 1881 in Halfway, MO..

Notes for JESSE EAGON:

Jessie and his wife came from Ohio in covered wagons with three other families to settle in Polk Co., MO about 1850. The other three families
were the Coys, Vandefords, cousins to Jessie who started the first store at Halfway; and the Ratcliffes. Jesse Eagon homesteaded land in Polk
Co., southeast of Halfway. A descendent of his still has the yoke used by Broad and Bright, two oxen of Jesse's. No one knows why, but Jesse
was away on a trip in Northern Mo., when he died. Because transportation was so poor in those days, he had to be buried at the place of his
death which is unknown to us. His wife Elizasbeth was buried in Reed Cemetery near the homestead which is near Blue Mounds and Buffalo
Head Prairie. D.A.R. member #528463 (Opal Helen Prather) shows Jessie Eagon - 1850 census Vinton Co., Ohio, named in father's will (Barnet
Eagon). Newspaper had memorial to daughter, Mary Eagon Ankrom.

"Genealogy cabinet" rescued and refinished by Bertha Eagon Engle was in home of a relative at Halfway. She and John and Emogene Engle
Conrad, Duane and Linda Conrad Hileman, Melissa and Emily, and Barbara Conrad went with her in 1975 to farm near or at Arthur Roderick's in
Halfway to bring it to her home at 701 Pleasant, Aurora, MO. She refinished it herself, as she did most of her furniture. She also re-upholstered
furniture, hooked rugs, and crocheted (a beautiful bed coverlet).

Jessie and his wife brought the bottom chest of drawers in a covered wagon from Ohio. He made the top cabinet part with shelves and pigeon
holes in Halfway, because it's made from packing cases that have "Halfway" written on the back. There are five kinds of wood in the cabinet. It is
now in the home of Emogene Engle Conrad in Springfield, Mo. (2002)
