Seeking info about my g2-grandfather, George 'William' DYKES
Born: 24 Aug 1855 in Georgia
Died 9 Dec 1890 in Texas
Buried: Rock Church Cemetery, Tolar (area), Hood County, Texas

Married 23 Dec 1875 Hood County, Texas

Wife: Judith Ann(e) 'Judy' JACKSON
Born: 5 Dec 1856 Gilmer County, Georgia
Died: 13 Mar 1941 Pecos, Reeves County, Texas
Buried: Rock Church Cemetery, Tolar (area), Hood County, Texas
Father: Andrew J./David 'Andy' JACKSON (1822 NC - 1900 TX)
Mother: Mary McKULEY OSBORN (1824 NC - 1860 TX)

William and Judith had 7-8 children, including my great-grandmother, Donnie 'Pearl' DYKES (1878 TX - 1961 TX) who married Joseph Robert 'Joe' LOCKHART (1877 TX - 1949 TX).

I have been unable to find a death record for George 'William' but it is believed he died in either Erath County or Somervell County, Texas.

I have been unable to find him in any census prior to the 1880 Census (Erath County, Texas) which shows that William DIKES' {sic} parents were born in Virginia.

Descendants of George 'William' DYKES and Judith Ann(e) JACKSON are known to have lived in Comanche, Crane, Dawson, Ector El Paso, Erath, Hood, Jim Wells, Kaufman, Lampasas, Lubbock, Midland, Milam, Mills, Nueces, Reeves, Runnels, Stephens, Tarrant, Taylor, Tom Green, and Wichita counties (among others) in Texas.

Retired Texas Tech football coach, William Taylor 'Spike' DYKES is, reportedly, descended from this DYKES Damily.
