The following is an excerpt from a newspaper that I got from my grandmother. Her mother is one of the children that was on the train. The only information that she has is that her grandfather's last name was Dux (unsure of the spelling). This has been a mystery for several years for me, and any information would be helpful.

~1893 Abel Stafford received Monday morning a consignment of freight from Eureka consisting of five small children, the oldest only seven years old and the youngest un-able to walk. The mother of the children, who died some time ago, was a sister of Abel’s wife, and the husband having recently married again concluded he had no use for this much of a family to start with, shipped them to his former wife’s relations to take care of. No previous notice had been given Mr. Stafford and he knew nothing of the arrangement until the cargo of human freight was unloaded on his hands. Mr. Stafford, not knowing what to do with the children disposed of them among the neighbors, Jos. Plattner taking one, Mrs. John Stafford one, and the others to families in the country.
