Jean Curpen Dones, age 92, of Upper Arlington, Ohio passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Kobacker House, Columbus, Ohio.

She was born on November 22, 1917 in Plymouth, Ohio, daughter of Edward and Lucy (Voris) Curpen.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, James H. Dones in 1985.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Dones, Upper Arlington, Ohio and Sue Grimes, of Terre Haute, Indiana; grandchildren, Cathy Grimes, of Scottsdale, AZ, and James Grimes, stationed with the U.S. Army at Ft. Polk, LA; sister, Bonnie Fey, of Oxford, OH; sister-in-law, Ann Purtz, West Palm Beach, FL; nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother devoted to her family.

Jean graduated from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, continuing to be an active alumni and was recognized as alumna of the year in 1980. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, Mortar Board, and P.E.O. She was a longtime member of First Community Church and was very involved in many ways. She enjoyed traveling to Elderhostels, participating in Shaker seminars, and researching family genealogy.
Special appreciation to the caring staff at the Heart Disease Management Clinic at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Private interment will be held at Union Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.
A Service of Memory will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, January 4, 2010 in Burkhart Chapel at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., where family will receive friends at a reception in Brownlee Hall immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Community Foundation, the Heart to Heart Program, or Friends of Music, at First Community Church 1320 Cambridge Blvd., Columbus, OH 43212 or to a charity of choice, in her memory.
