I have Dickeys in my family that started in PA and then migrated to Ohio. In fact I have a John Dickey who was born around 1788 in Pennsylvania. Then by 1819, he and his wife Margaret Longcor are married in Athens, County Ohio. Their children were:
Clarissa Dickey b. 1821 in Ohio
Martha Dickey b. 1824 in Ohio
Lucretia Dickey b. 1827 in Ohio
Solomon Dickey b. March 30, 1828 in Ohio (This is my line)
Following census records, family recollections and a little information gleaned from a book with some Dickey genealogy I have been able to trace our family back to the first John I have mentioned.
This family as well as later generations moved from Ohio to Elkhart, Indiana. Later the family moved to Iowa and then to Oklahoma.
I have found a John A. Dickey born to the family on November 17, 1867 in Jasper County, Iowa. I am able to trace him for a while but then he disappears. Looking at the census from that time the only John A. Dickey I can find moves to Nebraska where he is a servant, and then the next one I find is in Shasta County, California. I am not sure if this gentlemen is related or not. I am still trying to track him down. I have been told that we have a John Dickey which corresponded with my great-grandmother for a long time but then his correspondence ceased abruptly. There is speculation that he was either killed or that he passed away suddenly and no one received word.
I hope this information helps anyone and hopefully you may be able to help me. I have more detailed information if anyone is interested.
