I have already responded to a query you placed on the Rivers message board but, due to my excitement at having found someone who can tell me something about this family, I can't resist replying to this posting on the del Rio message board as well. I'll repeat myself, just in case that, by some fluke, my other responses may have gone astray. "I strongly suspect that I am a relative of yours. Although I was around my grandmother quite a bit in my early childhood, all I really know about her is that her maiden name was Rivers (Del Rio?) and that she was born in either 1878 or 1880. (On her death certificate the typed date appears as 1878, but someone had crossed out that date and written 1880 by hand) Although in her later life she called herself Birdie or Bertha, I have discovered recently that her actual given name was Emma. According to her sons (one of whom was my father), she was born in Louisiana. The only Emma Rivers of Louisiana, whose birth year fits that of my grandmother (1878) was the daughter of Jose Rivers and Nancy Emma Parrott who appears, listed as a two year old on the 1880 census for Bayou Sea, Sabine, Louisiana. If the Emma Rivers born to Jose Rivers and Nancy Emma Parrott is indeed my grandmother, as she surely must be, then this means that you and I must be distant kin. Please, please contact me at email@example.com
. I can scarcely wait to hear from you.
