I am a great grandson of MARK WEBSTER DAZEY who was born in Columbiana County, Ohio. His father, Richard Dazey, later moved his family to Fairfield, Wayne County, Illinois. Mark took one of his father's horses against his father's wishes to enlist in the Civil War . In 1871 Mark changed his name to CHARLES BRADY and was a survivor in one of the last major Indian attacks in Texas known as the Massacre at Salt Creek Prairie in Young County, Texas . In 1872, Charles married Mary Frances Hutchinson at Granbury, Hood County, Texas. They had 12 children . Charles Brady died at Granbury in 1907 and is buried there .
I have been told the Dazey name is French and that before Delaware and Maryland the surname was a variant of D'arcy. I have the exact spelling in my notes somewhere . Maybe another Dazey has heard this story ?
