Well, I coughed up the 5 euros the IFHF wanted to see the record of the James Winterscale, and then wished I hadn't. Bit of a rip-off really, since you don't see the original entry, just a transcript (presumably done for them for free by some volunteer). I do object to family history societies who seem to feel they can charge anything they like for access to the work of volunteers - and 5 euros for one transcript is well over the top!

Anyway, leaving aside my rant, it does tell us a little more, but not much. It is a church burial record for St Johns Union parish, Church of Ireland, Co. Sligo, but the graveyard is not recorded. James Winterscale, address simply given as Sligo, died on 29 Jun 1841, and he was aged 75.

So, I would assume that this is the father of John Winterscale, Eliza and Mary. If James was 75 when he died, then he would have been born in 1765/66, and he would have been about 23 years old when John was born in 1788 - which seems to fit. Unfortunately the death record says nothing about whether he was married, which would pin down the link.
