Luella "Lou" Hamann was born on the farm at Manning, Iowa, October 24, 1916, the daughter of John and Ida Fischer Dammann. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Lou was raised on the farm receiving her education in the rural schools until the family moved into Manning where she completed her education.

On April 14, 1943, Lou was united in marriage with Elmer Hamann at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla, Iowa. While Elmer completed his service to his country Lou made her home with her parents. Upon Elmer's discharge in 1945 they moved to Denison and were the parents of one daughter, Barbara. From 1958, until retiring in 1986, Lou was employed as receptionist for Dr. Logan in Denison.

In her spare time Lou enjoyed gardening and gambling.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.

Lou died Saturday afternoon, January 17, 2009, at the Denison Care Center, Denison, Iowa, having been blessed with 92 years, 2 months and 23 days of life.

Including her parents, John and Ida Dammann, Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, in July of 1972, daughter, Barbara Peters, September 10, 2008, two brothers, Louie and Alfred Dammann and one sister, Elsie Farrell.

Those remaining to cherish her memory include her son-in-law, Myron Peters of Denison, two grandchildren, Marc Peters and special friend, Lacey of Omaha, Nebraska and Sarah and husband Keith Wulf of Fairmont, Minnesota, one great granddaughter, Molly Wulf of Fairmont, Minnesota, one sister, Amanda Bogatze of Manning, other relatives and friends.

Private graveside funeral services and burial were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at the Manning Cemetery in Manning, Iowa, with the Rev. Daniel Vogel officiating. Following the interment those in attendance enjoyed fellowship and a meal at Cronks in Denison. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home,, in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
