My greatgrandmother, Maria, had a brother who immigrated with her named Michaelangelo--changed to Michael once here in US. Their father also traveled with them and his name is listed as Luigi.

The 3 sailed from Naples, Italy on board the ship "Dalmatia" and arrived at Ellis Island on 28 May 1896. Luigi was 50 years of age, Maria was 17 and Michaelangelo was 15.

They did come to Philadelphia via New York and the purpose of the immigration was Maria was to be the bride of my great grandfather. The marriage took place about 6 months after their arrival in the US--apparently they were waiting for Maria to reach her 18th birthday.

I found the immigration information on the Ellis Island web site and have the papers that Luigi and his soon-to-be son-in-law, JJ Castaldi, signed for the marriage to be legal. Luigi and Michaelangelo remained in the Philadelphia area according to Federal census records.

Does any of this help?
