I'm currently tracking down the lost sheep
of the DL's in my part of the world (Co.Down)
There are two sets of DL's ironcally with two
geographical sub-divisions of Dalzell (linked
at some date beyond which i've not got to yet)
Type 1 (for lack of a better term); came over
at the start of the Plantation
Type 2; appeared in the country circa 1850's
From what i've seen type 1's are repsonible for
nearly all the American connections.
The two geographical centres are 1)Armagh-
Loughgall, and 2)Newtownards-Bangor.
Oddly there is a mix of both groups in both areas
-hence the difficulty in tracing the family
history locally. I'm attempting to collate
a full family history and would be happy
to e-mail it to you (just don't expect fast
results, this is just a hobby for me). In
the meantime pour yourself a dram of the
family whiskey (Glenmorangie - as if you didn't
know)and continue to 'Da yell' ('I dare')
P.S if you come across a decent rendition
of the clan coat-of-arms (a mailed fist holding
a scimitar (a reference to our ancestor's
bloody letting activities during the Crusades)
please e-mail it to me.
