I have searched the Drouin records for Onesime in St. Damase and other churches in the county of ST.Hyacinthe. I am almost 100% sure he is the son of JB Daigneau/lt and Marie Charlotte Deslande dit Champigny for the following reasons: the Census of 1851 lists Onesime as a family member; Damas Daigneau/lt, is a younger son of JB and Marie Charlotte who has a closed relationship with Onesime, the older brother. 1. Onesime is the godfather to Damas Daigneau/lt's son born in 1865. 2. Onesime's 3rd son, my grandfather is named Thomas Damas. 3. Damas Daigneau/lt's name is recorded on Onesime Daigneau's death record in 1902 in Magog.

Customarily, the use of "Joseph" was the first name, then the godparent's name and finally the name by which the child would use (like our first name). The name, Onesime, appears on all his records; therefore, I can conclude that this is the name he went by. The missing piece is the name of his godfather.

Any suggestions? Thank you for your time on this matter. My Onesime seems to be a very elusive great-grandparent.

Sincerely, Maureen
