Born May 24, 1940 in Columbus, OHIO, he was a graduate of East High School and a member of Barnett Road Baptist Church, where he was a faithful worker in the food pantry ministry until illness prevented him from doing so.

He was a member of the Cups & Saucers Social Club, The Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. Ohio Memorial Chapter, and spent many weekends fishing on Lake Erie.
