Cruger, John Harris. 1738-1807. Loyalist officer, b. Westchester, N.Y.
Son-in-law of Oliver DeLancey; commanded loyalist battalions at Savannah, Ga., 29 December 1778, and in the defense of Savannah, 9 October 1779; provided relief at Augusta, Ga., 14-18 September 1780; commanded the Tory stonghold at Ninety-Six, S.C., May-June, 1781; highly regarded by the British.
