There are several Federal Census records. Two of the early records are as follows:
In the 1850 Census, Thomas Crooker (sic), laborer, 35 (b NY) is recorded in Williamsburg, NY, with wife Sophia, 25 (b NJ), and two children: Sophia, 10, and John, 12, plus Rebecca Moore, 30 (b Ireland), and her children: Mary Moore, 4, John Moore, 2, and Sophia Moore, 1. (1850 Census, Williamsburg, Kings Co., NY, Page 876)
In the 1860 Census, Thomas A. Cruger, peddler, age 49, headed a household in Brooklyn's Ward 16, which included Sophia J. Cruger, 38 (b NJ), Charles T. Moore, printer, 26, Sophia J. Moore, dressmaker, 21, Charles T.C. Moore, 4, and Sophia J. Moore, 2. They are recorded as two families living in the same dwelling. Thomas valued his real estate at $2,500. (1860 Census, Ward 16, Brooklyn, Kings Co., NY, p 641)
