CONESVILLE, Iowa - Robert E. ''Turk'' Conaway, 84, of Conesville, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, at Colonial Manor, Columbus Junction.
A memorial has been established at Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Columbus Junction.
Mr. Conaway was born Feb. 10, 1922, in Riverside, the son of Robert E. and Ima M. Lauderdale Conaway. He married Marcene Leona Harman on Nov. 1, 1945. They later divorced. He married Dorothy F. Knowler on Sept. 17, 1955, in Muscatine.
He worked as a farmer at Halane farms for 13 years and the Roy Smith farms for 17 years. He also worked at Purfax, currently known as Bodiene, in Washington.
He enjoyed woodworking, raising animals, attending flea markets and going to the Old Threshers Reunions in Mount Pleasant with his special friends, Kevin and Bambi.
Survivors include two sons, Mark D. Conaway and wife Kaye and Jack W. Conaway, all of Muscatine; two stepsons, Robert R. Stanton and wife Peggy of Joplin, Mo. and Steve R. Stanton and wife Rhonda of Washington, Iowa; three daughters, Linda Lou Bartlett and husband Brad of Ottumwa, Doreen R. Macias and husband Joe of Texas and Kay L. Gartzke of Conesville; a stepdaughter, Sherry L. Stewart and husband Dale of Morning Sun; three brothers, Kenny Conaway of Florida, Darrell Conaway of Grandview and William Conaway of Columbus Junction; two sisters, Mae Forbes of Muscatine and Dorothy Villagrana and husband Mike of Conesville; many grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; a sister, Fern Stoker; a grandson, Eli; and a great-grandson, Brandon.
