My brother found information about Charles Francis and Rose Coghlan in two books. One is "Oxford Companion to American Theater" which gives info when that Rose was born in Peterborough, England in 1853. She made her American debut in 1872. She was leading lady at Wallack's Theater, NY. She died in 1932. Charles Francis was born in Paris, France in 1841. He made his American debut in 1880. He also wrote several plays. The book "Pictoral Companion to the Theater" has a picture of Rose but I am not sure of Charles Francis. I have not looked up these books yet. My father's sister told us that they were brother and sister to our grandfather, John Alfred Coghlan. I am not sure of that, but they are related. John Alfred married Addie Elmore from Sumter, SC. There were only two children, John Kendall and Mary Coghlan. I am the daughter of John Kendall who was born 7-2-1889 in Sumter, SC and died on 2-18-1949 in Charleston, SC. Mary Coghlan was born in 1885 in Sumter and died in 1973 in Charleston. Addie Coghlan died in 1936 and is buried in Charleston also. The family had moved to Charleston prior to 1926 when my parents got married. We were told our grandfather was buried in a National Cemetery but we do not know where yet. He was in the Union Army and stationed in Sumter, SC but I do not know dates. Any information you may have will be appreciated. I had just started my research on the Coghlan side of the family when I posted the message.
