I have done some additional research since my posting on January 6 2012 and have some found new information, some specifically covering the facts mentioned in your reply.
I looked at the poorly scanned image of Laura Cobble Jones funeral home bill (believed to from Rainey's Funeral Home near Ardmore) and the date of the funeral was November 30, 1939. The date of her death is reported to be November 29, 1939. I am guessing that if she died in November, she did not die giving birth to John Edward Jones as the story goes.
I printed a copy of the death certificate for Ruby Jones Holman; it does confirm that she is buried in Malone Cemetery at Cash Point Tennessee. I found the certificate on Family Search.org, the site supported by the LDS church. The handwriting is almost illegible and took a while for me to finally make out it was Tennessee not Texas. I think the people who transcribed the microfilm and entered the information into their database encountered the same problem. An image of the death certificate is available on-line.
The LDS church has additional information in their databases pertaining to David Jones and Laura Cobble.
A record exists documenting the death of a male child, Ernest Jones, born to David Jones and Laura Cobble. Ernest R. Jones was born about May 15 1921 and died January 31, 1922. David and Laura were living at 507 Rison Ave, located in the 5 Points area of Huntsville Alabama. The record states that he was buried at Maple Hill Cemetery. A check of the cemetery records indicates that an Ernest Jones, male, no age given, was buried on 1/31/1922. The exact location of this burial is unknown. There is a note to contact the Cemetery Department for more information. No image of the death certificate is available on-line.
I had to calculate backward from the date of death to arrive at 15 May 1921 as the date of birth for Ernest. Something I found to be interesting is the date of birth listed on Ruby Jones Holman’s death certificate. Ruby’s date of birth is given to be May 18, 1921. If these dates are accurate then Ernest and Ruby had to be twins. In the 4 years that I have been researching family ancestral records, a 3 day discrepancy in dates is not a big deal. Record keeping was so poor prior to the last 50 years, it was very possible for people to not know their actual birth dates.
A record exists documenting the death of a female child born to David Jones and Laura Cobble. Infant Jones was stillborn on February 12 1920 and was buried February 13 1920. The record states that she was buried at Maple Hill Cemetery. A check of the cemetery records indicates that a Dane Jones, female, no age given, was buried on 2/13/1920. The exact location of the burial is unknown. There is a note to contact the Cemetery Department for more information. No image of the death certificate is available on-line.
A record exists documenting the marriage of Sarah Frances Jones, child of David Jones and Laura Cobble, to Loyd Truman Kent, son of Will Kent and Mavis Mayes Kent. They were married on February 15 1949 by W. L. Williams, minister. An image of the marriage license register is available on-line and can be found at the Madison County Records Center located on the 3rd floor of the Huntsville Public Library.
A record exists documenting the death of a female child born to Chesley Holman and Ruby Jones Holman. Josephine Holman was born August 11, 1940 and died August 20, 1942. There is an error on the death certificate as her birth date is listed to be August 11, 1942 and her age at time of death was 2 years and 9 days. If you subtract 2 years & 9 days from August 20, 1942, you get the correct birthday. She died in Elora, Lincoln County Tennessee. She is also buried at Malone Cemetery at Cash Point Tennessee. An image of the death certificate is available on-line.
I have also information have that I will post later including:
Census data on David and Laura
Marriage and death information on Mary Lou Jones.
