His father Charles Carroll of Annapolis b: 1703 d: 1783 ...married Elizabeth Brooke (daughter of Clement Brooke & Jane Sewell ... note: Elizabeth was a near relation of her husband. Charles Carroll of Carrollton was also the only Roman Catholic to sign Declaration of Independence & the last surviving [age 95] signer. Charles Carroll of Carrollton's grandfather Charles Carroll, Attorney general under the third Lord Baltimore, emigrated from England to Maryland because of the persecution of the Catholics 1 Oct 1688.
