Zula Swinney Carnathan is my mother's paternal grandmother. Her husband's name was Walter L. Carnathan, and I believe she ran a restaurant in West or Weir in Holmes County while her husband farmed out in Horseshoe, near Tchula. My mother remembers her as a stern old woman who still wore brogans and a bonnet in the 1970s!
The good news is that she lived to be over 90 years old, which is the oldest of the Carnathans by far.
My grandmother and her sister married two of the younger Carnathan boys (Ben's brothers), and they were both good for nothin, from what I hear.
The Swinneys were an important family in Lexington, I believe they owned a store on the square during the first half of the 20th century.
I hope this helps!
