Henry Calfe/Calfee and his sister Sarah were probably born in Northumberland County about 1680. Henry is connected to the Calfe family in Northumberland because he and his assumed father (or grandfather) Joseph Calfe have both been found in records of Northumberland Co, Virginia. Henry's name has been shown on records as Calfee but ,on a couple of occassions as Calfe and Chalfee. In 1711, Henry was witness to the will of Lazarus Taylor in Northumberland. It is interesting to note that Lazarus Taylor, Jr. was later a neighbor of Henry's in King George County after 1724. In 1722 Henry Calfe was a witness to John Brown's sale of land to John Crump (both were later neighbors of Henry in King George County) in Northumberland county and was also a witness for Mrs John Brown in an appointment of Peter Lehew (later the founder of Front Royal, VA) as her attorney in fact concerning her dower interest. So, we have Joseph Calfe and John Brown arriving together in Northumberland County as immigrants in 1651. In 1711 we have Henry as witness to a will in Northumberland and in 1722, Henry Calfe was a witness for a decendant John Brown and his wife in that same county were Henry Calfe was probably born. Henry and Sarah were probably the children, or grandchildren of Joseph Calfe, but no proof of that connection has been found. However, one must consider the small population of Northumberland and the fact that Calfe/Calfee is not a common name. The odds favor Joseph Calfe being the father of Henry and Sarah Calfee. Sarah Calfee married John Hudnall and resided in the same area at Lancaster, Virginia. In 1724, Henry moved to King George (AKA: Hanover parish/now Fauguier) County and settled between Brown's Branch (Harper's Run) and the northern terminus of Sumerduck Run near the present day town of Morrisville, Virginia. This location is a few miles Northeast of the Rappohanock River. Sister Sarah and husband John Hudnall also moved to King George County in 1725 locating next to Henry on a 778 acre place.
