Sanford W. Cabaniss was reputed to have been blacksmith, died in Civil War,
son Taylor Scott was with him when he died.

Corporal/Private during the Civil War. Period of service from 1 March, 1863,
to 30 June, 1863, When paid 27 Aug, 1863, by whom paid Jno Maguire, amount
$44. S. W. CABANISS, Co. F. 31st Ala. Appears on a RECEIPT ROLL for
"Commutation of Rations." Roll dated Talladega, Ala, 186_. From July 24,
186_, to Aug 22, 186_, paid Oct. 5, 1863. S. W. CABANISS, 2 Corp, Capt.
McKibbin's Co. 31 Regiment, Alabama Infantry.* Age 42 years. Appears on
Company Muster-in Roll of the organization named above. Roll dated Camp
Goldthwaite, near Talladega, Ala., Mch. 29, 1862, Muster-in to date Mch. 29,
1862. Joined for duty and enrolled: When Mch. 29, 1862. Where Silver Run,
Ala., By whom A. J. Walker, Period Three years. S. W. CABANISS, Co. F, 31
Re't Alabama Infantry. Appears on a LIST of "Killed, Wounded and Missing in
31st Reg't Ala. Vols., Batle of Baker's Creek," for May 16 to June 13, 1863.
List dated June 13, 1863. Remarks: Trenches, wounded slight in neck. S.
W. CABANISS, Pvt. Co. F, 31 Ala Vol. C.S.A. Appears on a ROLL OF PRISONERS
OF WAR in hospital, paroled at Vicksburg, Miss., according to the terms of
capitulation entered into by the commanding Generals of the United States
and Confederate forces July 4, 1863. Roll dated Not Dated, Paroled at
Vickburg, Miss., July 15, 1863. Where captured Vicksburg, Miss. When
captured July 4, 1863.

To all Whom it may Concern, Know Ye That:
I, S. W. Cabaniss a private Co. F of 31st Reg't Alabama Vols. C.S.A., being
a Prisoner of War, in the hands of the United States Forces, in virtue of
the capitulation of the City of Vicksburg and its garrison, by Lieut. Gen
John C. Pemberton, C.S.A., Commanding, on the 4th day of July, 1863, do in
pursuance of the terms of said capitulation, give this my solemn parole
under oath -----

That I will not take up arms again against the United States, nor serve in
any military, police, or constabulary force in any Fort, Garrison or field
work, held by the Confederate States of America, against the United States
of America, nor as guard of prisons, depots or stores, nor discharge any
duties usually performed by Officers or soldiers against the United States
of America, until duly exchanged by the proper authorities.

Ethel Cora but family bible states her name was Cora Ethel. Ethel married Robert Gardner Sain in Cerragorda, Ark. (more info on Sain family on Sain message forum this web site.. message #105 dated Feb 26, 2001)
