I'm thrilled you're getting into it! It's just too enticing a possibility, isn't it, that intriguing photo of "Professor Bye, violinist?" And wouldn't it be nice to know your GRANDfather (not grgrandfather) was so freakin' HANDSOME?
Am also thrilled (I thrill rather easily as to things genealogical) that you have apparently super software letting you manipulate photos for facial comparison. While it's great you have a photo of Carl older, I wilted when I saw he had a full beard, as it makes facial comparisons so difficult (I have Italians in the period of those ferocious mustaches. Sigh.) I see on your tree that you have no siblings for Carl, so no luck on other possible photos of family members to seek out resemblances that way.
I feel your pain on the Norwegian family names. Sounds like a nightmare.
Looking back at my last posting, I realize I may not have been careful enough backing up your Carl being in Massachusetts as well as Maine and New York (the latter two being proven from your concert program, what a great thing to have). Perhaps it's because Carl's son Charles Eli Julian Bye died in Worcester, MA, in 1910. Will have to look again.
I'm very happy to move off the forum as no doubt our posts are rather long and detailed for this setting.
You may reach me at vneutralzone @ gmail.com. I look forward to it.
