Yes we have heard the same story about Jeremiah Brooks (b. 1773 VA) and his family. One of the stories passed down about the family coming from Scotland originally, but having spent time in London. Plus the men all having dark hair and red beards. My husband Jim is a direct descendant of Jeremiah via his son David, then Hiram Comer Brooks, Haywood Lafayette Brooks, James Haston Brooks, and father Paul Brooks. There has to be a connection between all the Brooks family in VA, NC, TN, AK, GA and AL. Jim has joined FTDNA (Family Tree DNA) and has had his Y-DNA tested, he has lots of matches with Brooks from those areas, now we have to find the actual common ancestor. If you haven't done it already, consider trying the DNA trail to back up your paper trail
