I have Adam Brians born in 1828.
Was his middle name Thorton? Did he marry Lucy Finley Dec. 9, 1858? These facts for an Adam Brians of Analy Township in Sonoma County have been found in the Sonoma County newspapers. How many Adam Brians could there be in that county?
His brother William (my great great grandfather) was born July 12, 1812 in Missouri, according to the 1890 census (although my grandmother thought it was Tennessee). He married Virilla (or Virillia) Adams in 1833 in Missouri.
According to my grandmother, the extended families of the Adamses and the Brians came across the plains from Missouri to Sonoma County. The Brians are listed in the 1850 Missouri census and my great grandmother was born at Bodega in February 1855, so it is probably safe to assume that they came west between 1851 and 1854.
She also said that Adam and Williams' father, also William Brians, was a "little tailor with a crippled foot" from Ireland, and that his wife was Margaret Scott from Scotland. There is nothing to verify this, and perhaps these two people are one generation back from the men's father and mother. William the elder did settle in Virginia, however.
Please let me know if any of this sounds familiar.
