Darlene Petersen of Emmetsburg passed away Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg. She was 90.
Born Aug. 1, 1919, near Burt, Darlene is the daughter of Leo and Ruth (McKinney) Brayton. She attended grade school in Portland Township and graduated from high school at Burt.
Darlene and Roy Petersen were married Jan. 28, 1941, in Burt. The couple lived in Santa Monica, CA, for a short time before moving to Ringsted where they made their home for several years.
The Petersens moved to Fenton and established a furniture store. They moved with the store to Emmetsburg where they owned and operated Petersen Furniture until retiring in 2006.
Darlene enjoyed the customers in the store. She loved her family and enjoyed sewing.
Surviving are two sons, Richard (Gloria) of Fenton, and Steven (Jean) of Pasadena, CA; five grandchildren, Heath (Shelia) Petersen of Emmetsburg, Matthew (Renee) Petersen of New Ulm, MN, Benjamin (Krista) Petersen of Worthington, MN, Laura Petersen and Craig Petersen, both of Pasadena, CA; and five great grandchildren, Jessie, Travis, Olivia, Madaline and Tyson; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Arney of Emmetsburg and Bernice Petersen of Clarksville, VA.
Mrs. Petersen was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her parents; sisters, Viva Ringsdorf, Ivy Woltz and an infant sister; and brothers, Howard, Dick and Lee.
The family will greet friends at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg from 2 to 5 p.m. this Saturday, June 19.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.
