One thing that makes these old families difficult to sort through is that naming tradition of "hey, let's all name our babies the same names as our siblings have, so all the cousins have the same names!" lol

So, there were 2 Luther E Braytons, born a generation apart. One to James Wheaton Brayton + Hannah, the other to Benjamin 1778 +rebecca

Practically every generation had a Benjamin. You are correct about 3 being married to Mary B(utts), one to Hannah Wheaton and one to Rebecca Reed. I can not locate any Benjamin with a wife named Roby. The only one by that name is Roby Esterbrooke, who married James Wheaton Brayton. I don't have access to the Civil War Pension Index, so i can't see exactly what you're looking at, but I will check it out next time I am at the library.

Oh, and thank you so very much to Birdie1919, who gave the link to the Worldcat site; I was able to read both volumes of the Brayton Family History online with Adobe! That is the main source for all of the above information.
