Hey Cathy, Anne's ancestors left Norway for Holland circa 1500 and settled in Fort Orange, now Albany NY, about a century later. They were actually Bradts, not Bratts and took that spelling after the British took over New Holland. The Mesnards changed the pronunciation of their name to appear English. It was normal for the French and Dutch to appear as English as possible to avoid discrimination. The term Yankee was coined during the colonial period of the US as a derogatory name for the Dutch, meaning 'little cheese'.

It is most unlikely any of our Bradts went to England but certanly not impossible.
