Hi, my name is Arthur Sharpe. Martha Matilda Boyd was my great grandmother. My grandfather was James Franklin Sharpe, brother of Robert Bascom Sharp (the e at the end of Sharp seems to come and go, I think my grandfather decided to add it on again). I attended his funeral in 1969. Here is the information that I have:

Liddia Matilda Jones
Born: 22 Nov 1843 in NC

Notes: After her husband William died in 1909, The 1910 census shows Liddia (listed as Matilda) living with her son Edward (listed as Eddie F Sharp). They are living next door to Robert, Matilda and family.

Robert Franklin Boyd Rev.

My mother remembers Martha Matilda as being a stern woman who strongly disapproved of her marriage to my father.

My Sharp ancesters had a peculiar habit in the nicknaming of their children:
My Father was Arthur Edward and they called him Billy.
My uncle was James Franklin Jr and they called him Tommy.
My name is Arthur Edward and they called me Eddie, not so odd as my middle name is Edward, but perhaps after Eddie F Sharp.

Robert Robinson Sharp was known as Railroad Sharp due to his initials (R. R. Sharp). I wonder if this means that he worked for the railroad at one time.

Another curiosity, the 1900 census said William and Liddia had 9 children, with 5 living. Since Robert and Ida are still living in 1900, Harriett, John, Harly and Charly must have died. Without 1890 census or other info, John must have died between 3 and 13 yrs old (1870-1880), Harriett between 11 and 31 (1880-1900), Harly between 2 and 22(1880-1900), and Charly between 2mo and 20 (1880-1900). Must have been rough times.

Why did William Sharp move to GA from NC? There was a gold rush in Georgia in 1869. I wonder if they went there to seek gold, and returned to NC after not finding it.

If you have found any info on the ancestry of William Sharp or of the Boyds, I would greatly appreciate hearing about it.
